Along with countless events this year, Halloween is one holiday likely to be affected by COVID-19 restrictions. At this point in the year, many Portsmouth residents would be stocking up their cupboards and compiling elaborate outfits for a night of door-to-door knocking and Halloween festivities.

This year however, such activities are not advisable when following government guidelines to keep the public safe. However, whilst fright nights and trick or treating may be off the agenda, the residents of Portsmouth and their families are creating alternate ways of celebrating the holiday.

Hannah Watson, a mother of two in Portsmouth is setting a trick or treat trail around her home. She said: ‘just because we can’t leave the house doesn’t mean we can’t carry on with our usual traditions. The kids are just as excited to dress up and hunt for sweets in our own home.’

One pair of entertainers looking to adapt to the new guidelines are the duo known as Nikki and Charlie who are performing socially distanced doorstep visits. The affordable spooky shows last ten minutes and aim to bring back a bit of normality to children in and around Portsmouth.
