After moving to Southsea in September and noticing the level of litter discarded along the seafront, a group of students who live together and attend the University of Portsmouth decided to help do something about it.

The housemates get together each month to scan the beach armed with litter pickers and bin bags for rubbish that is washed up or left behind.

For them, their mission to clean up the beach is motivated not only by the obvious environmental costs that litter on the beach can have, but also by their love for their seaside town and like anyone when they come to the beach they want to feel that it is safe and clean.

The group aim to find a day each month which each of their house of eight girls can attend the clean-up and they also encourage their friends and any other students to come along and help by posting it on their social media accounts.
